Dear Friends and Colleagues,

The fight for equal access to justice continues. Will you join NHLAA’s fight? In the last three years, we have opened 3,974 cases, helping clients stay in their homes, secure unpaid wages, obtain access to needed educational services, remain unified with their families, and maintain public benefits. Some of our work in the last year includes:

  • Collaborating with the community to promote more affordable housing for New Haven’s low-income residents;
  • Filing a class action lawsuit against the City of New Haven on behalf of children poisoned by lead paint;
  • Expanding our school based legal clinic to ensure families have increased access to our services through weekly walk-in hours in the school; and
  • Increasing our immigration caseload by nearly double to represent clients in need of immigration relief.

Our clients continue to face challenges brought by cuts in state spending, the economic downturn, and the implementation of new federal policies. As a result, the continued support of our donors is increasingly important.  On behalf of those we serve, thank you for your support.  Please continue your support of NHLAA during this Spring Campaign, so we can keep working together to bring justice to the neediest.

We look forward to seeing you on June 11th at our annual Equal Access to Justice Reception, where we will honor Dr. Paul Broadie, II and Professor James Forman, Jr.! The reception will be held from 5:30-8:00pm at the Quinnipiack Club.

We thank you for all of your support in the past and continued support in the future.

Sincerely,

Alexis H. Smith

Executive Director
