New Haven Legal Assistance Association, Inc. (NHLAA) offers clients and prospective clients the option to receive SMS/text messages related to their request for legal assistance or legal matter.
Participation in SMS/text messaging is optional and is not required to receive legal services from NHLAA.
How SMS Consent Works
NHLAA may send an individual an SMS consent request asking whether they would like to receive text messages from NHLAA.
No case-related SMS/text messages are sent until the individual affirmatively agrees to receive SMS/text messages by replying YES.
Step 1 – NHLAA Sends the SMS Consent Request
NHLAA sends the following consent request:
New Haven Legal Assistance Association (NHLAA): Would you like to receive text messages from NHLAA regarding your request for legal assistance or legal matter? Messages may include appointment reminders, intake follow-ups, case updates, and requests for information. Reply YES to agree. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help or STOP to opt out.

Step 2 – Individual Provides Consent
To provide consent, the individual must reply:
YES
If the individual does not reply YES, NHLAA will not enroll the individual in the SMS/text messaging program.
Step 3 – NHLAA Confirms Enrollment
After the individual replies YES, NHLAA sends the following confirmation:
New Haven Legal Assistance Association (NHLAA): You are now opted in to receive text messages regarding your request for legal assistance or legal matter. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help or STOP to opt out.
Opting Out
Recipients may stop receiving SMS/text messages from NHLAA at any time by replying STOP.
After opting out, the recipient will no longer receive SMS/text messages from NHLAA unless they subsequently provide consent to receive messages again.
Help
Recipients may reply HELP for assistance.
